I launched my first website in 1992, I was still at NCSU, it was just a couple of pages, and it was written in the Unix text editor. As I write this in the Gutenburger Editor on this new WordPress site it’s an incredible difference. Ease of use, and years of computing improvements make this a breeze to setup and ignore to let maleware attack.
Well, that’s my lesson learned from this week. It’s one of 2 important lessons of the week:
- Keep all your sites and plugins up-to-date or prepare to battle off hackers.
- Experience helps give perspective to the egoic rantings of fear, making it easier to weather storms of doubt.
Typing from a picknick table with this as my view, the metaphor jumps out at me: a body of water is calm beneath the surface; the wind that whips up the top is powerless just inches below the waves. This lake that Grace, Dean and I went swimming in this morning felt 10℉ warmer than the 67℉ it was on this August Day.
Keep WordPress Safe
On to my lessons learned from the week. a hacker exploited a plugin on one of my sites. Ultimate User enabled them to insert code in several files. The Anti-Malware Plugin from GOTMLS.NET found and with a good bit of work I got rid of all the elements. It had been in more than 15 files.
After the clean-up Shield’s Plugin will keep the site safe. continued will help too!
Peace deep within
